VINTAGE GLAMOUR GIRL: NICOLE WARNE

Author/ Creator: NICOLE WARNE

Vintage style, not to be confused with antique or retro, is defined as clothing either used or new (from dead stock), which was manufactured in a non contemporary era… generally speaking, it refers to clothing and accessories made and worn between the 1920’s and 1975. This pre loved style of fashion is in vogue right now and looks like it’s around to stay, with celebs such as Sienna Miller, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss jumping on the band wagon and mixing their fav vintage pieces with in-season looks.

Today’s featured blogger and owner of the online store Gary Pepper Vintage, Nicole Warne knows a thing or two about vintage style. Aged at only 21, this bright eyed business woman is goal driven and knows exactly what she wants.

Initially, Nicole began her blog as a supplement to her online store, documenting the journey and experiences encountered at GPV. Although, her fashion background and her borderline obsession with anything and everything vintage resulted in her blog eventually becoming a fashion blog consisting of a mixture of vintage, her personal style, general musings, daily rants and photography.

“For some reason, my blog is extremely personal and I’ve been told that’s what makes it so appealing,” said Nicole.
Although having a very busy schedule running her gorgeous online store, Nicole tries to find the time to make about 3 blog posts a week. As a blogger, she is more focused on posting high quality posts and putting a lot of thought and time into what she wants to share on her blog. “For me its more about quality than quantity,” said Nicole, whose emotive writing style and user friendly layout make her blog very attractive to current and potential followers.

She gains most of her inspiration from walking the streets and observing street style, and flicking through online look books as she believes this makes her ideas more relatable and more accessible for style savvy shoppers.

Number one tip from Nicole: “”Be creative, be yourself and just have fun!”

RR would like to thank Nicole for keeping vintage fashion alive! Her quirky, can do attitude should be an inspiration to us all!

If you haven’t already visited Nicole’s blog, we urger you head to www.garypeppervintage.blogspot.com and make yourself a new friend.

Nicole’s online store www.garypeppervintage.com specialises in vintage clothing and accessories.

With his passion and love for style, Ricky James has made quite a name for himself in the fashion world with the help of his blog. Like many young and aspiring creatives trying to get their foot in the door in this industry, Ricky James needed an outlet to express his love of fashion and styling. His blog is a collective journal of his passage and growth through building his career as a stylist. Starting his styling career as an assistant to a top Melbourne based stylist in 2009, Ricky James has quickly jumped out of the shadows and into the fashion world in his own right, now being approached by many people in the industry to style shoots for them! How exciting!!!
"I find it a very satisfying body of work"
Updating his blog a few times a week, Ricky James knows what’s in and what’s out, what’s hot and what’s not, in both male and female couture. “The thing I love about styling, is the way you get to work with different themes, models, stories and fashions to produce something different ever time but still always on trend”
His simple layout containing lots of pictures and the fact that he is a male fashion blogger makes Ricky James Flynn very intriguing. Plus, RR love the fact that he is totally into big ring jewellery because we are too!

FEATURE BLOGGER! ELSIE KASSIS

FEATURED BLOG: DIARY OF A FASHION MUSE
Author/Creator: ELSIE KASSIS
Fashion Blogger Elsie sounds like the average 20 something fashionable female with a great sense of style – and this reflects in the way she writes her blog entries. She is smart, articulate, forward thinking and yet knows what a girl wants to know when she goes to “follow” a blog about fashion. It is her knack for being so right all the time that keeps her readers coming back for more.
When we asked Elsie to give us a brief bio of herself – she rattled off about 20 different skills and interests she has developed over her many years of loving fashion, and the Rayon Rebellion team believe that in order to stand out from a crowd of like-minded bloggers, these attributes will help her  do so.
She has been exposed to so many sides of the fashion industry since studying fashion design/production, such as manufacturing, styling, journalism, marketing, buying, fashion retail, visual merchandising, PR etc etc and has applied these skills to her passion for personal styling sessions.
“Fashion writing and styling are two of my greatest passions”
Updating her blog at least a few times a week, Elsie keeps her readers interested by adopting a unique way of communicating with her audience “I am accessible – not aloof “.
Self satisfaction is the greatest thing to have come from starting DOAFM, but her long term ambition is to still develop her blog in a way that is grows bigger and better with every post, and she will endeavour to always get her stories out there.
When asked a few nitty gritty questions about the ins and outs of starting a blog- Elsie’s words of advice were to “Just do it. If you have a passion for anything – and you love to write and would like to engage people, starting a blog is the perfect way of doing so. There is nothing hard about being a Fashion Blogger – it’s supposed to be fun, and it really is!”
She sources her inspiration from key websites such as wwd.com, models.com and style.com, which is important in staying current in the fashion blogging world.
We would like to congratulate Elsie on her successes with DOAFM and if you’re not already following her fabulous blog, head to http://diaryofafashionmuse.blogspot.com/ and get acquainted!

The Way of the Future

BLOG: short for web log, is a type of website usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary and other interesting (and sometimes not so interesting) material. Blogs are the leading social media outlet available to contemporary society transforming media monologues into social media dialogues. They are interactive, allowing visitors to read, leave comments and forward to their friends. A typical blog combines text, images, videos and links to other blogs, websites and the like. They are revolutionising the way in which we obtain information and insight into many industries – there are blogs on just about anything and everything. This form social media is also allowing people to build relationships where they can share ideas, learn, make friends and even do business with people having similar interests from all around the world. The blogsphere has doubled in size every six months for the last three years... A scary statistic, (and this would only be scratching the surface) found on wikipedia was that a search engine for blogs Technorati, was tracking more than 112, 000, 000 blogs at the end of 2007. Hello!? It’s almost 2011 now, and blogs keep appearing more and more like a digital plague. No body counts them anymore; they are just too vast... In a nutshell, blogs are here to stay and if you are not reading them or publishing them, it’s time you jump on board because you will soon belong to the minority of people who use the internet!

So on a much smaller scale – what about the best FASHION blogs in Australia? Who are your stand outs? We may be new to this blogging thing too, but we have definitely got our ears to the ground, and know who’s who in the fashion blogging zoo. There are a few that have stood out to Rayon on a national level. Sassybella.com seems to be in the forefront of leading fashion blogs, stating this on their page:
"The SASSYBELLA.com fashion blog has been online since 2002. That's about the time Wikipedia mentions as the year the first fashion blogs began appearing. We are pretty proud of that fact and that SASSYBELLA has earned it's reputation as fashion blog of independence"

We believe that yes, Sassybella does deserve merit badges for being one of the first to lead the pack in the fashion blogging world – It’s content is a great mixture of Australian fashion updates and international fashion news – and many little things in between.

We recently did a call out to the industry to see who also has their ears to the ground. The rag trade is a fast-paced industry, and a few little Australia’s with some big dreams, have taken baby steps into joining the blogging revolution and taken the time to share their stories with the Rayon team. After all, it is those people who we really care about, and think its important to share the stories about the people behind the blog, and to bring them to life. We heard from loads of fashion stylists, designers, make up artists, as well as some really passionate individuals who just love fashion, and just love sharing that with their readers.

So enough "blogging on"... throughout the month of October you will be exposed to a handpicked selection of fashion bloggers. We will introduce you to the people behind these blogs and what makes their blog a stand out from the rest!
